Have Mercy!!

Recently I have been reading the cutest early chapter books with my tutor girls. I also personally just love them and today got the last one that I needed to have the whole series. The series is called Mercy Watson by Kate Dicamillo. Mercy Watson is a pig. Mercy Watson is a very very fun pig. Each book follow the buttery toast loving pig around on some waky adventures.  The books are beautifully illustrated and writen in a way that is funny for all who reads it.

I read these stories with my high level kindergarteners and my first graders. The kids just love them. They are always waiting to hear more crazy stories about the pig and the wild things that she will do to get butter! If in the future I have the privilage to teach kindergarten or first grade I will be using these as read alouds. They are the perfect link to read and finish the whole 6 book series by the end of the school year.
Seriously, is that not the cutest, most happy pig that you have ever seen?

I am slowly working through each book to create a comprehension pack. I am thinking that this may be a good time to start getting into Teacher Pay Teachers. Do you all think that’s a good idea? I would love to hear what you think or if you think It my be best to just post the questions on here let me know.

Another thing that I do really love about Kate is that she is passionate!! She is passionate about what she writes and she is also very passionate about her readers. She is an author that is easy to love and admire. She has a special web page for the Mercy books with all sorts of fun to enjoy. Mercy's Fun Website

Happy reading guys! Do you all have any fun summer read you are looking forward to? Are you doing a summer reading program at your library? Let me know I would love to hear what you all are up to.
Happy Reading!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day to all you amazing fathers out there. Recently I read a story called Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too. This is a story about Llama Llamas friend Nelly Gnu. Nelly is spending the day with her daddy and has the best time. It is done in normal Llama Llama fashion and written in a way that both young children and adults will enjoy. What I really love about how these books are written is that they really show how a child that age would feel. When I am reading the story I cannot help, but think about how my preschoolers can relate to the main characters.

I really related to this book as well. When I was little my dad always took me and my sister on little outings. He took us to school every morning where we would sing Disney songs all the way there. He took us to the zoo and movies. My favorite outing that we would share was going to the book store.

When I was small my dad would take me to Holly Cook bookstore in Louisville. I always thought this was a special adventure because we had to cross the bridge to get there. We would go and I would look at so many wonderful books. I can remember him buying me beautiful copies of Winnie the Pooh books. Each one has a special note in them. Even now I am grown these are one of my very most prized possessions.

I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and a beautiful Father’s Day. I know I would be nothing without my father. Let me know if you have been reading anything great lately. I love to hear new books that are loved.

Happy Reading,

Ms. Cara
